On Saturday, August 10th, 2024, Kristin Young from Love YAAH More Ceramics hosted an Open Clay Community Day with the Good Works Community Project and TreeBed Design Studio. This event was made possible by the Solano County North Bay Arts Fund grant and provided 30 families with a hands-on clay experience and a community lunch. Kids ages 3-15 attended with parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, and community members. Kristin and volunteers helped guide attendees through playing with clay, building a piece, and painting it; and all the pieces were glazed and fired by TBD Studio and available for pickup at their downtown showroom in Vallejo, CA.
“Ceramics can sometimes be an intimidating and expensive art practice, but at the end of the day, we’re playing with mud! It feels great to be able to help these families get their hands dirty and make something they can use and treasure for years to come. My love for clay started at a community studio back in Brooklyn, and ever since moving to Vallejo I’ve always wanted to provide similar clay and art activities within our community. Clay can be a tool for us to all connect. I’m hoping this is the first of many more grants and community clay and art activities I’d like to host with everyone’s support.” - Kristin Young
